B2Gold Corp. gives $1-M Yolanda aid

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Vancouver-based B2Gold Corp., a gold producer with three operating mines, including one in Masbate province, has announced a $1-million cash donation for the “immediate rescue and relief efforts” in the areas directly hit by Typhoon Yolanda.

B2Gold is the partner of Filminera Resources Corp. (FRC), operator of the Masbate gold project, currently the largest operating gold mine in the country.

Emergency response preparations at the Masbate gold mine were well underway before the onset of the storm to ensure that the mine infrastructure was well protected and that FRC employees had access to safe shelters.

As a result, Yolanda had no significant impact on the Masbate gold mine operations. All infrastructure and services remain fully functional, including the supply chain.

“B2Gold and Filminera thank its employees and contracting associates for their proactive management and we express our relief that no injuries occurred on-site,” said Cris Acosta, Filminera president and CEO.
