Elderly woman killed in QC fire

MANILA, Philippines - A elderly woman was killed after being trapped inside her burning house in Quezon City before dawn Friday.

Quoting fire department officials, a radio report said firemen recovered the charred body of Angelita Omidez, 57, on floor of her room in Barangay Baesa.

The fire broke out around 12:58 a.m.

Two more persons were hurt during the blaze that lasted for more than four hours, fire marshall Jesus Fernandez said.

One of the injured, Jose Kapre, sustained a wound on his hand while an unidentified woman was slightly burned during the fire, Fernandez added.

Firemen managed to put the flames out which spread to sitios Mendez, Pajo and Militar around 4:55 a.m.

More than 100 houses were destroyed while over 300 families were rendered homeless by the fire, authorities said.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
