Magnitude 4.5 quake hits Bohol, Cebu

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 4.5 earthquake rattled the provinces of Bohol and Cebu provinces on Tuesday almost a month after a powerful, deadly tremor jolted Visayas.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 1:21 p.m. with an epicenter traced at 31 kilometers northeast of Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Tuesday's tremor was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that killed over a hundred people in Visayas and damaged structures and even centuries-old churches.

The agency said Tuesday's earthquake was felt in the following areas, which were also hit by  typhoon Yolanda last week:

Intensity V - San Isidro, Bohol and Mandaue City Cebu
Intensity IV - Cebu City, Cebu
Intensity III - Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu and Calape, Bohol

In an advisory posted on its social media accounts, Phivolcs said as of 1 p.m., it has not issued a tsunami warning for Samar - another area damaged by the typhoon - or for any other part of the country.

"No threat of tsunami exists for the Philippines as of the time of release of this message," the agency said in its advisory before 2 p.m.
