Napocor barge aground in Iloilo causes oil spill

MANILA, Philippines -A barge belonging to the National Power Corp. (NAPOCOR) ran aground in Estancia, Iloilo  at the height of the onslaught of supertyphoon "Yolanda" carrying over 1.5 million liters of oil, a radio report said.

About 500,000 liters has reached two kilometers of water off Barangay Paon and Tanza

The Philippine Coast Guard's environmental experts, meanwhile, have launched an operation to contain the spill.

Coast Guard spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Armand Balilo said that the NAPOCOR barge was swept to a rocky area off Estancia owing to waves generated by due to intense waves. - Camille Diola
