Vilma’s fugitive in-law seen at ma’s wake, burial
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines – Authorities are tracking down Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto’s brother-in-law, wanted for the attack on the late governor Armando Sanchez in 2006, after he was reportedly seen at the wake and burial of his mother.
Calabarzon police director Chief Superintendent Jesus Gatchalian said he ordered the Batangas police to validate the information that former Batangas vice governor Ricky Recto attended the wake and burial of his mother last week.
Recto is a brother of Sen. Ralph Recto, the husband of Santos-Recto.
Gatchalian said Recto has a standing arrest warrant issued by a Batangas court and carries a P1 million bounty on his head.
He said the Calabarzon police has intensified its campaign against fugitives, particularly high-profile ones like Recto.
Gatchalian said he will order the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 4A (CIDG-4A) and Batangas police to get updates on Recto’s case.
Sanchez was wounded while his driver, Luisito Icaro, and bodyguard Police Officer 2 Eric Landicho were killed in an explosion in the provincial capitol compound in June 2006.
The CIDG filed criminal charges against Recto, who denied involvement in the attack.
