MAGUINDANAO, Philippines – Authorities remain clueless on the identities of the gunmen behind the attempt to kill a school supervisor in Datu Saudi town on Thursday.
Abdul Nasser Kempao, district supervisor of Datu Piang municipality, was driving his pickup truck when he was attacked in Barangay Salbo.
Kempao survived the attack unscathed, but one of his companions was wounded.
The gunmen fled toward the rice field, according to barangay officials.
Local officials in the neighboring Datu Piang and Datu Saudi towns expressed belief that the attempt on Kempao had something to do with the recent barangay elections.
Investigators are still trying to determine the identities of the gunmen and the motive for the attack, said Senior Superintendent Rudy Jocson, director of the Maguindanao provincial police.
The Datu Saudi police said Kempao and his family were reluctant to cooperate with the investigators.
