Activist priest Joe Dizon dies

MANILA, Philippines - Fr. Joe Dizon, a convenor of election watchdog Kontra Daya, passed away Monday night due to complications from diabetes. He was 65.
Militant group Bayan said Dizon died around 11:15 p.m. while confined at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Quezon City.
"He led the Workers Assistance Center in Cavite and convened groups such as election watchdog Kontra Daya and the Abolish Pork movement.
"He was a leading figure in Edsa 2 as well as the anti-Arroyo movement. His last rally was at the Sept. 21 anti-pork protest in Luneta and Mendiola," Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes Jr. said.
Reyes said Dizon's remains will be brought to the San Roque Cathedral in Caloocan City before being transferred to Imus, Cavite.
