Cops still clueless on slay of ex-Batangas vice mayor

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Police are still clueless on last Wednesday’s killing of a former vice mayor of San Pascual town in Batangas.

Senior Superintendent Jireh Omega Fidel, Batangas police director, said they have formed Task Force Aldover – composed of the Provincial Investigation and Intelligence Unit, Batangas Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, San Pascual police, and provincial scene of the crime operatives – to go after the killers of former vice mayor Alfredo Aldover.

Fidel said three persons, including two friends of Aldover, were invited for questioning but were later released.

“We are still in process of gathering evidence, so the probers have yet to establish the motive and the task force investigators are also doing a re-tracking investigation,” he said.

Fidel said probers have ruled out politics and personnel grudge as possible motive for Aldover’s killing.

“All pieces of information we have received from unknown tipsters are subject to verification first. We don’t want to obstruct the ongoing investigation and operations,” said Senior Inspector Manuel Maligaya, San Pascual police chief.

Maligaya said probers are awaiting the results of the ballistic test and cross-matching on the six empty bullet shells found at the crime scene.

Aldover, who served as security officer of San Pascual Mayor Antonio Dimayuga, was shot in the head near the San Pascual Baylon church at 11:15 p.m. last Wednesday.
