Cops clueless on Indian trader’s kidnappers

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – The police are still clueless on the identities of the gunmen that snatched Indian businessman Mike Khemani Tuesday night.

Khemani, 57, was kidnapped by five gunmen from his store on Bonifacio street. The incident left one of his bodyguards dead and another wounded.

The victim was reportedly brought to a river where a motorboat was waiting, according to Senior Superintendent Rolen Balquin, city police director.

Balquin said they have a clue on the owner of the getaway car that the kidnappers used in taking Khemani.

Responding policemen and members of the 1st Marine Battalion found the car abandoned in the city proper.

Investigators have asked the Land Transportation Office to validate the identity of the owner of the getaway car, a Black Kia Avella bearing license plates MCW 692.

Khemani, owner of the Sugni Superstore here, which has branches in Kidapawan City and in Kabacan town in North Cotabato, survived a kidnapping attempt four years ago.
