MANILA, Philippins - The Southern Police District (SPD) has assured those who will be visiting their departed loved ones in cemeteries located in southern Metro Manila Friday of their security and safety.

SPD director, Chief Supt. Jose Erwin Villacorte,  said the district's seven stations (Makati, Taguig, Pasay, Paranaque, Las Piñas , Muntinlupa and Pateros) will deploy enough police personnel to secure the 30 cemeteries located within the district.

Villacorte said focus was given to the security in bus and jeepney terminals and against street criminals who may take advantage of the situation. SPD units were also ordered to lend assistance in the mamnagement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the areas where cemeteries are located.

In addition, the SPD bikers’ team led by the SPD Command Group was also tasked to conduct bike patrols in areas not accessible to mobile patrol to prevent criminal activities.

Villacorte added that the SPD is also continuing with its distribution of safety tip manuals in terminals, malls and other places of convergence, and in the inspection of cemeteries.

"The said leaflets contain the hotline numbers of SPD where the public may phone in or text should they need assistance and or report incidents. SPD wants to assure the public of their safety," said Villacorte. - Mike Frialde
