The bloodied body of Police Inspector Romelou Medina, 35, was found by her fellow policemen at around 7:30 a.m.
Medina was still wearing her police uniform and she had a gunshot wound in the temple.
Crime scene investigators recovered the policewoman's 9mm service pistol and an empty shell believed to be from Medina's gun.
