2 nephews of poll bet hurt in gun attack

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines   â€“ Two nephews of a candidate running for chairman in the barangay elections were wounded in an ambush staged by unidentified gunmen in Rajah Buayan town yesterday.

Saudi Untong and Nasser Malang, both of Barangay Mileb, were taken to the Maguindanao provincial hospital in Shariff Aguak town for treatment of gunshot wounds, according to Mayor Zamzamin Ampatuan, chairman of the municipal peace and order council. 

Reports said the victims were on a motorcycle going to a polling center in Barangay Mileb when the gunmen shot them.

Ampatuan said Untong and Malang are nephews of Datu Pingcol, who is running for chairman of Barangay Mileb.

Meanwhile, a campaign supporter was wounded when unidentified men opened fire at their truck in the town of San Pablo in Isabela Sunday night.

Samuel Rodriguez, suffered minor wounds in the leg, according to Chief Inspector Jacob Dangpason, town police chief.

Reports said the truck was on its way to the village of Limbauan when the gunmen staged the attack in Sitio Cabbannungan.

Mayor Jose Antonio Miro III told The STAR that Rodriguez is a supporter of one of the three candidates vying for the village’s top post.
