SAN FERNANDO Pampanga, Philippines – The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) yesterday said it has restored electricity in a wide portion of Nueva Ecija affected by recent Typhoon Santi, just in time for Monday’s barangay elections.
“All 69-kV transmission lines in the province of Nueva Ecija now operate normally,†the NGCP said in a report.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) director for Central Luzon Rafael Olano said he was assured by electric cooperatives and private power firms in the region that power in areas severely affected by Santi would be restored before the polls.
“Despite this, we have generators on standby in case some areas will still be without power during the barangay elections,†he said.
He said though that lack of electricity would not pose serious problems because the barangay polls would not be automated like in the past two elections.
“We also expect that the barangay polls would not take too long to finish even up to the proclamation of winners,†he said.
