PNP places all units on full alert for barangay polls

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday placed all its personnel on full alert in preparation for the barangay elections on October 28.
PNP spokesperson Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac said they have also began the accounting of all personnel for the deployment during the barangay polls.
"During the full alert status, we [will] recall all policemen and we will cancel all of their leaves," Sindac said in a radio interview.
Sindac said the PNP is monitoring the situation in more than 6,000 areas of concern out of the total of 42,000 barangays in the country.
"Babantayang maigi natin yan at bibigyan prayoridad ng ating mga areas commanders on the ground," the PNP official added.
The PNP, in a statement, said it has deployed 50 percent of all desk-bound cops to do field work in preparation for the barangay polls.
"The PNP deployed 50 percent of all desk-bound cops in police headquarters to perform law enforcement and public safety functions in the field.
"All personnel assigned with the NHQ and Regional Personnel holding and Accounting Unit while undergoing schooling or training shall be deployed for election duty," the PNP added.
