San Fernando bets sign peace covenant

SAN FERNANDO, La Union, Philippines - – At least 1,099 candidates in the Oct. 28 barangay elections in this city signed a peace covenant at the St. William Cathedral yesterday morning to signify their commitment to peaceful and orderly polls.

The covenant signing was a joint initiative of the city police headed by Superintendent Julius Suriben, the La Union police under Senior Superintendent Ramon Rafael, the city government led by Mayor Pablo Ortega, the Commission on Elections, and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting.

Of the city’s 59 barangays, 16 have unopposed candidates for chairmen.
