KORONADAL CITY , Philippines – Eleven police officers in Central Mindanao were dismissed from the service after they reportedly tested positive for illegal drug use, a police official said yesterday.
Chief Superintendent Charles Calima Jr., regional director of the Central Mindanao police, said the dismissal of the 11 policemen stemmed from surprise random drug tests conducted in several police units in the region.
Calima refused to name the 11 policemen. He said all of them are facing criminal charges.
Of the 11 dismissed police officers, two were arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in an anti-narcotic operation in Gen. Santos City in February.
The PDEA said the two arrested officers were involved in the proliferation of shabu in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and Gen. Santos City.
Calima said the dismissal of the 11 should serve as warning to policemen involved in illegal drugs activities.
