John Unson - The Philippine Star

MAGUINDANAO , Philippines  â€“ Three Army soldiers were injured in a mortar attack allegedly perpetrated by members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Datu Unsay town yesterday morning.

The wounded soldiers of the 45th Infantry Battalion were on a hill along the Cotabato-Gen. Santos City Highway in Barangay Maitumaig when two 60mm mortar shells landed near them and exploded, according to Col. Dickson Hermoso, spokesman for the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.

“The mortar projectiles were launched by BIFF bandits from another hill,” Hermoso said.

The soldiers were rushed to the military hospital at Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat town for treatment.

“All three of them are now in safe condition,” Hermoso said adding that three teams of soldiers were pursuing the bandits responsible for the bombing.
