MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded over a thousand aftershocks following the deadly magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Bohol on Tuesday.
Phivolcs said 1,213 aftershocks have been recorded as 5 a.m. Thursday, 24 of which were felt.
The strongest aftershocks were the two magnitude 5.1 tremors that hit the provincial capital of Bohol on Wednesday morning.

The magnitude-7.2 earthquake hit Carmen town, Bohol at 8:12 a.m. on Tuesday as caused by the vertical movement of the East Bohol Fault.
Phivolcs executive director Renato Solidum had said aftershocks may continue for a week but their frequency will "diminish in time."
NDRRMC executive director Eduardo del Rosario had also advised the public not to panic amid the continuing aftershocks which were not destructive.
"Hindi po masyadong alarming because normal ang aftershocks after a major earthquake," he said at a televised briefing on Wednesday.
