2 Batangas cops hurt in shootout

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines   â€“ Two police officers were wounded in a firefight with a man they tried to arrest for grave threats in Lipa City, Batangas yesterday.

Senior Police Officers 2 Enrico Tapalla and Marlon Gonzales, both of the Lipa police station, were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds in the legs.

The two police officers, along with Inspector Hazel Lumaang, were about to serve an arrest warrant on Danilo Cruz, 52, when the suspect reportedly shot at them, triggering a firefight, according to Calabarzon police director Chief Superintendent Jesus Gatchalian.

Cruz surrendered after the authorities cornered him.
