MANILA, Philippines - At least 2,500 policemen were deployed in Manila to secure the medical and dental mission of religious group Iglesia ni Cristo on Monday.
The policemen from the National Capital Region Police Office were sent to several areas in Manila as early as 5 a.m.
In a statement, the INC said that the event is part of the run-up to its 100th founding anniversary on July 27, 2014.
The INC-sponsored dental and medical mission is staged at the following areas in Manila:
-Plaza Del Carmen beside San Sebastian Church;
-Plaza Avelino on Nagtahan;
-Magallanes Drive in front of the post office;
-flea market beside Quiapo Church;
-at the back of Far Eastern University;
-beside Isetann at the corner of C.M. Recto Avenue and Quezon Boulevard.
Authorities are expecting an estimated 1.6 million indigent residents of Metro Manila to troop to Manila for the medical and dental mission.
