Rains to prevail as new typhoon enters Phl area

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The country will continue to experience isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms as typhoon "Wipha" enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday, the state weather bureau said.

"Wipha" will be named "Tino" once it enters extreme Northern Luzon on Monday morning, PAGASA said.

"Tino," however, is not expected to make a landfall and will leave the country Monday afternoon as it moves north to northwest just along the PAR border toward southern Japan.

"Typhoon Wipha is too far to affect any part of the country," the bureau said.

Luzon, including Metro Manila and Palawan, will experience some light to moderate rains on Monday. Coastal and Manila Bay waters will be moderate to rough.

Light, scattered rains will also affect Visayas, while Mindanao will have sunny weather all day.

PAGASA said rough seas will continue to affect Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro Occidental and western coast of Batangas, Palawan, Batanes, Babuyan, Calayan, northern coasts of Cagayan and Ilocos provinces, La Union, Pangasinan and western coast of Ilocos Norte.

“Fishing boats and other small sea crafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it said.

Typhoon "Santi" pummeled through Luzon last week, leaving at least 13 people dead and millions without electrical power on its way to Vietnam on Saturday.
