BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya , Philippines – Laoag City, the capital of Ilocos Norte, has started enforcing an ordinance prohibiting establishments from using plastic bags and Styrofoam, especially in food packaging.
For now, however, those found violating the ordinance would only be advised to refrain from using the banned materials as the corresponding penalties would still take effect starting January next year.
Laoag Mayor Chevylle Fariñas urged her constituents to instead use paper or reusable bags.
