Fariñas son joins Laoag village polls
LAOAG CITY, Philippines – A son of Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas has filed his certificate of candidacy for chairman of Barangay 16 here in the Oct. 28 polls.
Fariñas’ son Carlos, who is married to Vigan City Mayor Eva Medina’s daughter Janina, ran for Laoag City vice mayor in the elections last May against his uncle, former city mayor Michael Fariñas, but later withdrew his candidacy.
In quitting the vice mayoral race, Carlos said he gave way to his uncle to preserve unity in their family. There are speculations that he would soon gain a foothold in the city government as councilor after his anticipated victory as village chief and subsequent election as president of the association of barangay chairmen, political observers said.
