10-year-old boy among hurt in Taguig grenade blast
MANILA, Philippines - Five people, including a 10-year-old boy were hurt when two still unidentified persons lobbed a grenade in Barangay North Signal in Taguig City on Wednesday night.
Taguig City Police chief Sr. Supt. Arthur Felix Asis identified those injured as Jonathan Meday, 21; Bert Malonzo, William Flores, Ricardo Ampil, 10; and Ruben Orate. The victims are all residents of the barangay, police said.
Initial police investigation showed that the victims were standing in front of a house at 29-G, 10th Avenue at about 10:38 p.m. when the two suspects appeared and without warning threw the grenade.
Those injured were rushed to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds.
Police officers who rushed to the scene following the explosion recovered the grenade’s safety lever.
Investigators said that on Wednesday morning, a group of men engaged another group of men near where the grenade exploded. The argument, police said, led to a brawl.
Police said the grenade explosion could have been done in revenge following the earlier brawl.
