MANILA, Philippines - Authorities have destroyed more than P5 million worth of marijuana during an operation in Ilocos Sur, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said on Tuesday.
PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. said combined operatives of PDEA Regional Office 1, Sugpon Police, Ilocos Sur Provincial Public Safety Company and Ilocos Sur Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group discovered the marijuana plants and seedlings in nine cultivation sites in Barangay Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur, covering a total of 3,940 square meters of land area last October 4.
Cacdac said that no cultivator was arrested during the eradication but operatives were able to seize 21,200 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants and 10,600 pieces of marijuana seedlings.
"The illegal hemp worth P5,088,000 based on the value set by the Dangerous Drugs Board, were burned on site following the eradication operation," Cacdac said.
