B’gay poll bet, boy killed in gun attack

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines  â€“ A candidate for the barangay elections and a four-year-old boy were shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Barangay Camayahan over the weekend.

Demson Bonghanoy, 54, and Avelino Montano Jr., were declared dead on arrival at the Butuan Medical Center from gunshot wounds.

The killing happened days after Bonghanoy reportedly announced that he would be running as councilman in the Oct. 28 barangay elections.

Reports said the victims were watching television in the house of Bonghanoy when the gunman barged in and shot at them before fleeing.

Police officers believe Bonghanoy was the target of the attack.
