MANILA, Philippines - Six violators of the election gun ban have been arrested in Western Visayas, a police official said Monday.
Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., Western Visayas regional police director, said that the alleged first gun ban violator in the region was Anthony Aguilar.
Cruz said Aguilar was arrested for carrying an unlicensed .38 revolver in Sigma, Capiz just one hour after the implementation of the gun ban midnight of September 28.
Three more gun ban violators were nabbed in Aklan and the other two were apprehended in Iloilo.
Cruz said these individuals were arrested for carrying unlicensed firearms and other deadly weapons.
The Commission on Elections imposed the gun ban as part of efforts to lessen violence during the barangay elections on October 28.
