Revenge eyed in ambush of Ilocos barangay head

Teddy Molina - The Philippine Star

LAOAG CITY , Philippines   â€“ Police are eyeing revenge in the ambush of a barangay chairman in Badoc, Ilocos Norte that left him and four others wounded.

This, as an arrested suspect in the ambush of Barangay Turod chairman John Raneses turned out to be a relative of the village’s former chief, Amor Taclay, whose killing was blamed on him.

Raneses, together with his parents-in-law and four others, was onboard a Revo van when he was waylaid in Badoc town last Friday.

Senior Superintendent Gerardo Ratuita, Ilocos Norte police director, said investigators were looking into revenge as possible motive as the suspect is a relative of Taclay. Raneses had been tagged as responsible for Taclay’s killing, police said.

Police said charges are being readied against the suspect.
