CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines – The owner of a shopping mart in Tanauan City, Batangas was killed when he shot it out with three robbers in his house in Sto. Tomas town before dawn last Friday, police said.
Senior Superintendent Omega Jireh Fidel, Batangas police director, said businessman Mariano Lirio-III Corpuz, 24, was declared dead on arrival at the Saint Frances Cabrini Hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Corpuz’s maid Irene Cuanico was unharmed as she was able to run and hide when the shooting erupted in the master’s bedroom in Corpuz’s two-story apartment in a subdivision in Barangay San Antonio, Tanauan.
The robbers first entered Cuanico’s room before they proceeded to Corpuz’s bedroom.
Police said Corpuz was able to grab the gun of one of the robbers and fired shots, but the two others shot him.
