P15-M evacuation center to rise in Isabela

Charlie Lagasca - The Philippine Star

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya , Philippines   â€“ A P15-million evacuation center for victims of typhoons and other disasters will soon rise in Isabela, and it will be the first in the region.

Isabela Gov. Faustino Dy III said the provincial government has entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to put up the center in Ilagan City, the provincial capital.

Under the MOA, the DSWD will shoulder P10 million for the project while the provincial government will provide P5 million and the lot where the center will be built.

DSWD-Cagayan Valley director Violeta Cruz said the provincial government will also manage the center once it is completed as part of the partnership agreement.

Dy cited the importance of the project, considering that Isabela is frequented by typhoons that result in massive flooding and landslides.
