MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections is ready to conduct the barangay elections scheduled next month, an official said on Friday.
Commissioner Christian Robert Lim said it is "all systems go" for the Oct. 28 barangay polls.
Comelec officials also showed to members of the media during a walk-through, the printing, cutting, segregating, and packing of official barangay ballots at the National Printing Office in Quezon City.
The poll body said that an estimated 33. 167 million ballots have been printed or 60 percent of the about 54.052 needed total number of ballots for barangay polls.
Commissioner Luie Guia, for his part, said it is the first time to use digital printing for the ballots and other election paraphernalia, including statement of votes and certificate of votes.
The poll body is expected to deliver the paraphernalias and election materials to the different cities and municipalities nationwide on October 18.
Meanwhile, Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. of Presidential Communications Operations Office lauded the poll body for saving P148 million when it used the excess papers in the 2013 mid-term polls for the printing of the ballots for the barangay polls.
