Ex cop wanted for murder nabbed in NCotabato
KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines --- Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested Thursday a former policeman wanted for the murder of a wealthy Filipino-Chinese trader here and for a failed attempt to kill another in Davao del Sur.
The suspect, Edwin Pecana, did not resist arrest when police operatives, led by Chief Inspector Elmer Guevarra, accosted him while inside the North Cotabato provincial branch of the Land Transportation in Kidapawan City.
Pecana was a Senior Police Officer III and a member of Kidapawan City’s Special Weapons and Tactics unit when he and two other policemen were implicated in the 2006 murder of Roger Ong, owner of the biggest hardware store here.
Two of his alleged accomplices, SPO2 Rene Mamburam and SPO4 Jose Ignacio Rinsulat, were earlier arrested and now detained at the city jail.
Guevarra said Pecana is also wanted for a frustrated murder case now pending at a Regional Trial Court in nearby Davao del Sur.
Guevarra said they will turn over Pecana, who had posted bail for the Ong murder case, to the Davao del Sur provincial jail in Digos City, where he shall be detained to undergo trial for his alleged involvement in a frustrated murder case in the province.
