Calamba official’s brod tagged in slay of reporter’s kin
CALAMBA CITY, Philippines – Police have launched a manhunt for the brother of the city treasurer here tagged as the gunman in the killing of the father-in-law of a reporter of a national newspaper Sunday morning.
Superintendent Marvin Saro, Calamba City police chief, said Victorino Manjares, brother of city treasurer Percy Manjares Adriano, is believed to be behind the killing of Jaime Herrera, 57, a father-in-law of Philippine Daily Inquirer reporter Marlon Ramos.
Several witnesses identified Manjares as the man who allegedly shot Herrera as he was seated in his Toyota Revo in front of Adriano’s house at around 9 a.m. Herrera died on the spot from three bullet wounds in the head and body, Saro said.
Saro said investigators are looking at personal grudge and work-related issues as possible motives for the crime.
Ramos told The STAR that Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas ordered the Calabarzon police to immediately solve the killing of Herrera.
