Mortar hits car in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A mortar hit and exploded Monday afternoon near a car parked just outside a residential house about a kilometer away from the embattled zone.

A police official said no one was reported hurt when the suspected mortar round landed along  Francisco Drive in Barangay Camino Nuevo shortly before 4 p.m.

The powerful explosion destroyed the rear portion of the car, a KIA sedan, with plate no. KGL 285 owned by the Francisco family.

The car was  parked outside the concrete fence of the  Francisco family house when it was hit by the explosion.

Elements of the Explosive Ordnance and Disposal (EOD) units of the police and army were searching for debris of possible bomb but suspected a mortar hit the car, citing the trajectory.- Roel Pareño
