CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, Philippines – The father-in-law of a reporter of a national newspaper was shot dead by a lone gunman in front of the house of the city treasurer in Barangay Paciano here yesterday morning, police said.
Superintendent Marvin Saro, Calamba City police chief, said the victim, Jaime Herrera, 57, father-in-law of Philippine Daily Inquirer reporter Marlon Ramos, was shot while seated in his Toyota Revo at around 9 a.m. yesterday. He died on the spot from three bullet wounds in the head and body.
Saro said Herrera, a cousin of former city police chief Leovigildo Manaig, was waiting in front of the house of city treasurer Percy Manjares Adriano when the gunman approached and shot him.
In a text message, Herrera’s daughter Karen asked authorities to immediately bring justice to their family.
“We hope that the police would make good on (their) promise to arrest at the soonest possible time the gunman who, we believe, was familiar with the area where our father was killed,†she said. – With Cecille Suerte Felipe
