CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Freeman bagged three of five awards in the print category of the 16th Cebu Archdiocesan Mass Media Awards (CAMMA) held Sunday night at the SM City Cebu Cinema 2.

The Freeman, a member of the The Star Group of Publications, won awards for Best Editorial Writing and Best in Column Writing through the Hints and Traces column of Rev. Fr. Roy Cimagala, and Best in Feature Writing by Archie Modequillo.

Sister publication Banat News also won three major awards in the Cebuano print category namely, Best in Feature Writing: “Ang Bugsay” by Eleanor Valeros, Best in Investigative Reporting: “Gubat batok sa dengue gilusad sa Minglanilla” by Brenda Batuto, and the San Pedro Calungsod Special Reporting Citation.

The CAMMA is held every two years to recognize local media practitioners from all media platforms. It is a brainchild of Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal and was launched in 1992.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, Commission on Social Communications chairman Msgr. Trinidad Silva Jr., and representatives from different lay organizations handed the awards to the respective winners.

This year’s CAMMA was themed “Social Networks Portals of Truth and Faith: New Spaces for Evangelization.”

Palma, in a speech, reminded the people to use social media in a proper and responsible way.

The other winners were: Website category – Personal Website (cebucentral.com), Corporate Website (Efficascent oil International Pharmaceuticals Inc.), and Institutional Website (Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc.).
