COTABATO CITY, Philippines – A grenade blast ripped through the residential compound of a barangay chairman here before dawn yesterday, not far from the scene of the Aug. 5 car bomb explosion that killed eight people and wounded more than 30 others.
Anwar Lucas, chairman of Barangay Rosary Heights 10, said he was convinced that he was the target of the bombing.
Lucas told reporters that the grenade, hurled from a distance, landed and went off near the wall of his bedroom.
Lucas said the grenade must have been hurled at the bedroom’s open window but failed to get through because of a protective fine-mesh, anti-mosquito screen.
The blast damaged two multi-cab vehicles owned by neighbors parked near Lucas’ house.
