COTABATO CITY, Philippines --- A grenade blast ripped through the yard of a barangay chairman here at dawn Friday, not far from the scene of the August 5 car bomb explosion that killed eight people and injured more than 30 others.
Anwar Lucas, chairman of Barangay Rosary Heights 10, said he suspects that he was the target of the bombing.
Lucas told reporters the grenade went off near the wall of a bedroom where he sleeps.
Lucas said the grenade must have been hurled at the open window of the bedroom, but failed to get through because of a protective fine mesh anti-mosquito screen.
Responding policemen recovered fragments of the grenade from the spot where it exploded.
Lucas said he and his family have been living under duress due to so many threats owing to his campaign against drug trafficking in his barangay.
No one was hurt in the bombing, but the incident caused panic in Lucas' neighborhood.
The blast damaged two multi-cab vehicles owned by neighbors parked near the barangay chairman's house.
