MANILA, Philippines - Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested a retired senior police officer and his accomplice after selling shabu to a poseur-buyer in Bulacan, the PDEA said on Wednesday.
PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. identified the suspects as retired Senior Superintendent Romeo Gemzon, 63; and Joel Herrera, 47; both of Sto. Niño Subdivision, Barangay Perez, Meycauayan, Bulacan.
Cacdac said the two men are classified as high value targets in the province of Bulacan.
Based on initial investigation a PDEA agent who posed as buyer transacted with the suspects to purchase 100 grams of shabu and agreed to meet along St. Bernadeth Street, Sto. Niño Subdivision, Barangay Perez, Meycauayan last Aug. 23.
After handing over the illegal drug to the poseur-buyer, Gemzon and Herrera were immediately arrested by operatives of PDEA Regional Office 3.
Anti-narcotics agents confiscated from them were two mobile phones and the two P500 marked bills used as buy-bust money.
"Instead of engaging in illegal drug activities, Gemzon should be enjoying the fruits of his labor after a rewarding career. Now, his drug-pushing days too, are over," Cacdac said.
