CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A brother of controversial police Superintendent Hansel Marantan was killed in an attack by two motorcycle-riding gunmen in Lemery, Batangas yesterday morning.
Ariel Marantan, 47, died at the scene from seven gunshots to the body, according to Senior Superintendent Omega Jireh Fidel, Batangas police director.
Reports said the victim was at his mango farm in Barangay Talaga when shot by the bonnet-wearing gunmen at about 10:30 a.m.
Fidel formed a special team to investigate the killing, which he believed was due to a land dispute.
The victim’s brother was linked to the Atimonan shootout in Quezon province last January, which left 13 people dead.
