Cebu town exec nabbed for shooting monkey

MALABUYOC, Cebu, Philippines – A town councilor was arrested for allegedly shooting a monkey in Barangay Montaneza in this town yesterday.

Alfredo Villafuerte, 68, of Barangay Canduling Ronda town, and his companion, Lucino Carreon, 50, of Barangay Palanas, were armed and carrying a sack when they were arrested by the Malabuyoc police past 9 a.m.

A licensed M-14 rifle with 36 bullets was seized from Villafuerte, while Carreon yielded a rifle with five bullets.

Investigators have yet to verify if Carreon’s firearm is licensed.

Police Officer 3 Protacio Tago Jr. said they received information about men hunting wild animals, but did not expect that one of the suspects would be a town official.

Charges for violating the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act await Villafuerte and Carreon. – Ria Mae Booc/Freeman
