TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will hire 255 more former armed cadres of the Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CPLA) as forest rangers as part of its peace pact with the government in 1986.
CPLA-Cordillera Forum for Peace and Development chairman Arsenio Humi-ding said the DENR and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process are finalizing a memorandum of agreement for the hiring of CPLA members as forest guards under contractual appointments.
Early this month, 30 elder members of the CPLA in Apayao and Abra were absorbed by the DENR for forest guard duties.
They are currently undergoing training with the DENR-Cagayan Valley office, Humiding said.
