6 hurt as ship bumps motorboat
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – A former judge of this city and five others were injured when a cargo ship bumped their motorboat in Albay Gulf the other day.
Arnulfo Cabredo,72, a former prosecutor and judge; his friends Apollo Arienda,46, and his brother Leonel Arienda, 26; brothers Ato, 45, and Jun Roman, 41, and Gil Tarug,24, were on the motorboat g when they were bumped by the cargo vessel M/V Lily Princes, said Maximino Paraiso, Albay Coast Guard petty-officer-in charge for operations.
Cabredo said the impact threw them off the boat.
“We immediately swam away from the ship to avoid being pulled by the current toward its propeller,†Cabredo told The STAR.
Aside from suffering from bruises and contusions, the victims lost their properties in the incident.
Ruben Abujan, the captain of the cargo vessel, claimed they did not see the motorboat as they approached the port. He said they did not expect that a boat would be on their way.
Cabredo said he would file criminal charges against the ship captain and his crew tomorrow.
