Int’l scout jamboree kicks off in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Over 7,000 delegates from at least six countries are taking part in the five-day international scout jamboree that officially opened yesterday at the Kawa-Kawa Natural Park in Ligao City, Albay.

Bienvenido Canlapan, executive chief of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Mayon Council that organized the international event, said the participants come from the Philippines, France, Japan, Belgium, Croatia, and the United States.

Canlapan said more foreign scouts are expected to take part in this year’s jamboree which has the theme “Scouters: Help save Mother Earth.”

He said a pool of experts was invited to lecture on topics related to climate change adaptation and environmental protection.

Canlapan said the flooding in Metro Manila and central and northern Luzon only slightly affected the participation of scouts from these places.

Albay also hosted the international jamboree three years ago.
