Heavy rains to continue in Metro Manila, 10 Luzon areas until after midnight

MANILA, Philippines - Flooding was expected to continue in low-lying areas in Metro Manila and 10 provinces in Luzon as the weather bureau expected the moderate to intense rains to continue until after midnight of Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services and Administration (PAGASA) extended its Yellow Rainfall Advisory in its 9:15 p.m. updated on Monday.

PAGASA said moderate to heavy with occasional intense rains will continue to affect for the next three hours or until 12:15 a.m. Tuesday in Las Piñas, Parañaque and Muntinlupa in Metro Manila; and the provinces of Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, southern part of Quezon Occidental Mindoro, Pampanga, Zambales, Tarlac and Bataan.

Moderate to occasional heavy rains were also expected for the rest of Metro Manila for the next three hours.

"Flooding will still prevail in low-lying areas," the weather bureau said in its advisory.

Several local government units in Metro Manila and the affected provinces in Luzon have already declared the suspension of classes on Tuesday.

Malacañang, meanwhile has yet to declare if it will continue to suspend work in all government offices in Metro Manila.

As of the latest report from the National Disater Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), at least three people have been confirmed killed and four more were reported missing due to floods and continuous rains in Luzon since Sunday.

Based on earlier reports, large parts of Laguna, Cavite and Bulacan are submerged in floodwaters.

The torrential rains is brought on by the southwest monsoon known locally as Habagat, being enhanced by Tropical Storm Maring, which continues to hover off Batanes.
