GSIS to extend Labuyo emergency loan assistance

Zinnia B. Dela Peña - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will provide emergency loan assistance to more than 10,000 members affected by Typhoon Labuyo.

Active members in calamity-declared areas, which include eight towns in Aurora, three towns in Zambales and the entire Quirino province, may borrow P20,000 from the GSIS, payable in 36 equal monthly installments.

“More than 10,000 of our members based in these calamity-declared areas are in dire need of assistance,” GSIS president and general manager Robert Vergara said.

The program is open to all members who are not on leave of absence without pay, have no arrearages in the payment of mandatory social insurance contributions, and have no loan that has been declared in default.

Qualified members may apply for an emergency loan beginning today through the GWAPS (GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System) kiosks using their eCard or UMID eCard.

“The loans will be electronically credited to our members’ accounts. They can draw down the loan through our kiosks which are available 24/7, so there’s no need for them to go to our offices,” Vergara said.

The GSIS currently has 18 kiosks in the calamity-declared areas located in provincial capitols, city halls, selected municipal offices, large government agencies such as the Department of Education, and GSIS branch offices.
