Women's group to picket vs PHL-US access deal

MANILA, Philippines - Members of the women's group Gabriela on Thursday will picket the office of the Department of National Defense in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City to protest the Philippine rotational forces agreement with the US government.
Gabriela members will converge at the Boni Serrano gate of the military camp around 10:30 a.m. to also air their opposition to the increased access of US troops to the Philippine facilities.
The group's protest action will also be in line with the end of World War II and a memorial for comfort women during the Japanese occupation of the country.
Under the PHL-US access agreement, the US will increase the number of troops who will be undergoing military exercises in the Philippines.
Many militant groups believe that the accord will merely usher in the return of the US bases, which will violate the provision in the Philippine Constitution that there will be no permanent foreign base in the country.
