MANILA, Philippines - Oil firm Petron said that it has not found any leaks from its pipeline at its depot in Rosario, Cavite that might have caused the oil spill.
In a statement, the Petron management said it has tested its pipelines of any possible leaks after receiving reports of oil spill in the area.
"Test results show that the pipeline is intact and has no leaks," Petron said.
"To ensure safety and product integrity, we always conduct pressure tests for all our pipelines before we receive any fuel product. This is part of Petron's standard operating procedures," it added.
The oil company said it has launched an operation to contain the oil slick and probe on the incident, which has affected coastal barangays in Rosario and Tanza towns.
"We immediately deployed our oil spill response team to see the extent of the oily sheen and begin containment and recovery operations of what we suspect is diesel," Petron said.
Mayor Jose Ricafrente of Rosario has declared the town under a state of calamity as 19 of its 20 coastal barangays have been affected by the oil spill.
