MANILA, Philippines - The regional police force in Metro Manila has intensified its intelligence gathering operations amid the series of bombings in Mindanao this week.
Chief Superintendent Marcelo Garbo Jr., director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said that he directed the regional police's intelligence teams to take all information on terrorism seriously.
Garbo also urged the public to help the police to deter the possible threat os terrorism in the capital region.
He said concerned citizens who would spot suspicious-looking baggage and persons should immediately contact the NCRPO through 0915-888-8181, 0999-901-8181; its Twitter account @NCRPOReact and Facebook account NCRPOReact.
Police and military forces in several areas in Mindanao have also been placed on alert due to the bombings in Cotabato and Cagaya de Oro cities, were nearly 20 people were killed.
Meanwhile, security forces in Pagadian and Zamboanga cities were placed on full alert after text messages of alleged bomb threats circulated.
The threats claimed the attacks will happen on Friday, during the celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
