MANILA, Philippines - Poll watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting wants voter's education be included in the curriculum of public schools in the country to prepare students for future elections.
PPCRV chairperson Henrietta de Villa said the group is now preparing a module type voter's education that it will recommend to the Department of Education to be included in grade school curriculum.
She said it is high time for the youth to be educated on responsible voting during elections.
"Yung ipino-propose naming, ipasok sa curriculum, pwede siguro sa current events, i-integrate sa mga subject like sa Araling Panlipunan. Para unti-unti mabuwag ang nakasemento na mal-practices during elections specially sa selecting of candidate," De Villa said.
Aside from responsible voting, the proposed module will also aim to inculcate in students the concept of good governance, De Villa added.
"Doon pa lang mayroon ng paninimula kung papano ang responsible way of deciding kung sino ang iboboto nila ano ang hinahanap na katangian, para magkaroon sila ng habit," she said.
Education Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali, in a separate interview over Radyo Veritas, said the department has already replicated programs regarding good governance and leadership in different school subjects in elementary like those now being taught in private learning institutions.
